Ed and Edie Bontrager began coordinating and hosting tours abroad since 1970,
in conjunction with their pastoral ministry in several states. To date they
have hosted about 20 different groups to overseas locations, and several motor
coach tours on the U.S. east coast. The local tours have gone to Sight and
Sound, Lancaster, PA, The Yoder Barn, Newport News, VA, and The Biltmore Hotel,
Asheville, NC.
Since Ed's partial retirement from the Virginia Mennonite Missions with administrative offices in Harrisonburg, VA, they are expanding this small travel enterprise, providing two or three overseas trips annually.
Our tour members have come from various states, as well as Canada. We are happy that some people have traveled with our groups several times, sometimes to the same places, because as one person says, "I get so much more out of going back the second time..."
Our tours have mainly taken us to Greece, Turkey and the Middle East. However, we have hosted groups to other countries in Europe, to Indonesia, Zimbabwe (for Mennonite World Conference), and countries in South America.
Throughout our tours we share in worship times, singing, fellowship, meals. We have guides on site who are knowledgeable and articulate regarding the culture, customs, and history of the places we visit.
